I hate okra. In Texas, where I am from, okra is traditionally battered and
deep fried and served as a “vegetable” somewhere in-between the meat
and the potatoes. It is a sad interloper whose nutritional value and taste
is normally left swimming around in boiling oil. Fuck okra. I presented
many drawings to TM, all infused with my feelings re: okra. They were
soundly (and understandably) rejected. I also gave them a couple of
drawings that focused on the only good thing about that plant—the way
it looks. Like most plants, the structure and development of an okra
pod is a thing of beauty, and I hope my painting did it justice.
